About Us

Prineville was named in honor of the town's first merchant, Barney Prine. The town was founded in 1880 and has continued to grow into the town we know and love.

Scenic beauty, camping and water recreation are at their finest at this high desert park. Mountain waters flowing out of the Ochoco Mountain Range join to form the Crooked River.

Amongst many local trails such as Barnes Butte, the local mountain bike advocacy group, COTA has been working diligently on creating a new mountain biking trail that are easily accessible from town.

A dam constructed on Ochoco Creek after World War I formed the reservoir for irrigation and flood control which allowed for recreation activities. Mill Creek and Ochoco Creek input to the reservoir and the output is Ochoco Creek. The 

Smith Rock State Park is a 651 acre high desert plateau that covers 3,000 feet in elevation. It's a riveted destination for all of Central Oregon. Hike, bike and climb!

Prineville is home to many campgrounds where you can get in touch with nature. Sugar Creek Campground, Ochoco Divide Campground, Cottonwood Canyon State Park, Deep Creek Campground and more!

Fly fish amongst the Crooked River which flows through the base of Prineville through a deep canyon of rim rock. 

Meadow Lakes Golf Course is Prineville's hometown championship course. Featuring a beautiful clubhouse, friendly staff, driving range, putting and chipping area.
